Disconnect input power before inserting modules or changing wiring.
Use the Hardware diagram to identify connections.
1. Install the modules
Install the power modules supplied for your kit. Do not mix VPX55HS and VPX57HS supplies. The hold-up module, when supplied, occupies the second power-module slot.
2. Connect the instruments
| Instrument | USB connection | Signal connection |
|---|---|---|
| Aardvark | Pi USB port. | Supplied I2C cable to the backplane. |
| Beagle | Pi USB port. | Passive tap on the same I2C bus. |
| PicoScope | Pi USB port. | Probes to the required signal connections. |
Connect the PicoScope’s DC adapter as well as USB. The Beagle and PicoScope are optional for basic power-supply control.
Use the supplied I2C wiring. Do not change bus addresses or pull-up settings during initial setup.
3. Connect the scope probes
Identify each signal using the signal lookup table. Match probe attenuation and scope settings before taking measurements. Check probe ratings and grounding before connecting a signal.
| Scope input | Default label | Example signal |
|---|---|---|
| A | REF | Enable signal or reference waveform. |
| B | CH1 | VS1. |
| C | CH2 | VS2. |
| D | CH3 | VS3. |
| E-H, 4824A only | CH4-CH7 | Auxiliary rails or other test signals. |
Channel labels do not establish physical connections. Confirm the actual probe location before interpreting a waveform.
4. Connect network and power
- Connect the Pi and computer to the same Ethernet switch.
- Connect the input source with its output off.
- Check input type, voltage, polarity, wiring, and load ratings.
- Connect the Pi’s power supply.
- Apply input power when the setup is ready.
Do not assume the installed power supply accepts 28 V DC.
Switch positions
These positions apply to backplane TF-VPIK-3B009-1, revision 3. Read them from the component side.
| Switch | Up | Down |
|---|---|---|
| S1 Enable | Disable. | Enable. |
| S2 SBC supply | 3.3 V Aux. | VS2. |
| S3 NVMRO | Assert; block writes. | Deassert; allow writes. |
| S4 Inhibit | Deassert. | Assert. |
Check page 1 of the signal lookup table before changing switches. Software controls do not replace input-power isolation.
Verify
- Open
http://viper.local:5173or use the IP address shown on the Pi touchscreen. - Complete the Setup Wizard.
- Confirm detection of the connected instruments and power supplies.
- Check the model, serial number, and live readings in Telemetry.
For missing devices, use Troubleshooting.
